Aggregates in The Netherlands
In The Netherlands, we have developed an innovative wet processing solution to assure the right quality output in line with the governmental regulation 'Dutch Green Deal'. We operate a large scale IBA washing facility in Assendelft, that processes 600.000 ton IBA per year. After metal separation and structural removal of contaminants around 450.000 tonnes of secondary aggregates find its way back into the circular economy. The washed aggregates replace building material such as primary sand and virgin gravel and contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of the Dutch infrastructure industry.
The Green Deal
In the Netherlands, the Waste for Energy Industry and the Dutch government signed the Green Deal, to improve IBA quality. To be able to comply with the strict quality standards, Blue Phoenix developed and patented new technology to wash the IBA. The process integrates wet metal recovery to increase metal recovery. The IBA washing technology consists of multiple washing steps to clean the mineral fraction to a quality that complies with the highest environmental standards. The output minerals are can be used in civil and road construction works throughout the Netherlands without any restriction.
