Through the patented Advanced Dry Recovery Technology Inashco can upgrade traditional cleaned bottom ash and construction and demolition waste into construction aggregates. Bottom Ash Minerals (BAM) and Concrete Minerals (CM) cleaned with this technology can be used in concrete or in Asphalt.

Aggregate out of cleaned bottom ash for concrete products

Aggregates from treated bottom ash can substitute natural aggregates and on top of that reduce the cost price of concrete. The independent committee CUR VC 89 has investigated treated bottom ash in concrete since 2008. The aim is to publish a technical guideline (BRL beoordelingsrichtlijn) in the 2nd quarter of 2011.

Based on the results of tests - done under the responsibility of the CUR-committee - it is expected that 35% of aggregates in concrete may be substituted with treated bottom ash in the Netherlands. Besides the tests within CUR, we have successfully done tests  in a production environment with the leading concrete producers which include products like concrete tiles and concrete bricks.

The latest development is a 'filler with binding properties' made out of bottom ash as a substitution of cement. In production we successfully exchanged 25-50% of cement.

Minerals for concrete products out of construction and demolition waste

It is well known that concrete waste can be used in concrete as substitute for primary materials. As these products may contain light materials (e.g. wood) the industry is not really substituting the primary materials in large quantities.
The Advanced Dry Recovery Technology cleans - in a cost effective way - the concrete waste. The products processed with the Advanced Dry Technology comply with the EN 12620+A1 - European Standard for aggregates for concrete - and can be uses as a substitute for primary materials.

Ongoing research

Bottom ash has hydraulic qualities. Inashco is setting up a research program to investigate the production of a cementious material out of cleaned bottom ash. Universities have already proven that a cement like material can be made out of bottom ash.
